I deserve it...

This poor little 1950s dresses quilt has been on the go for 6 years!!!

I've just added borders and pieced the back.... I like to stitch on a label before quilting to make sure the ownership of the quilt can never be disputed.... when it's quilted right through the label, the quilt can't be easily stolen or disguised...

I'll be giving this to Mum to quilt very soon! Wahoo!

And this quilt will be for me - I deserve it!

No time for reverse stitching - I'm going full on!!

The 1950s dresses I started stitching in about 2006 (gulp) would like to be turned into a quilt. They were supposed to be stitched in redwork, but I couldn't resist adding lots of colour.

The fabrics I've chosen give a "flea market"-vintage-sort-of-look. They come from different repro eras - 1930s, 50s, and 70s retro with one or two modern designs that still look nostalgic really...

Okay, so that is one full round on each block (I made 9 of the 12 blocks) plus another strip at the top a-la Log Cabin style.

Stay tuned. I'm going to complete the second Log Cabin round, then border the blocks alternately with green and brown prints. That should finish the front... I've got some other retro prints for the back that I will play around with to make something Flea Market-ish.

Actually, that would be a good name for this quilt - Flea Market Vintage. I can just see some of these dresses at market stalls.

Dang it!

I finished the border on the Eureka chain quilt. VBG. I will piece the back today and post it to Mum to be quilted. If I had more time I would have pieced the back with another PIG or UFO as suggested by Sharyn.. but time is now of the essence and I must make haste.

Last night I dug out the 1950s dresses UFO (from my list of 4) and I made 2 Maverick Stars. That was fine... the blocks don't look too bad. Why didn't I piece the quilt back for Eureka last night? Too tired, I probably would have stuffed it up. But, how can you stuff up these stars? So I made them instead. It was a good idea to make 2 blocks first.

But dang it!! I have only stitched 9 of the dresses. I still have 3 stitcheries left... Urgh! I didn't feel like stitching the dresses at the moment. This might go back into the box for a little while longer.

So, that means I will be changing my current list of 4 projects again

1. Christmas Mice (handwork)



2. 1950s dresses is out for a while, and in comes the 2007 Mystery Quilt ready for binding! Mum custom quilted it, and now it needs binding and it will go in the wash to remove the green marking pen.



3. Christine Book stitcheries are in the box again because I will either make cushion covers, or put them on the reverse side of a quilt (not "the back", the reverse) and in comes the Noddy quilt. It's nice to have something whimsical to play with.


4. Once I have pieced the Eureka Chain quilt backing, the French Collection quilt will take its place. This will give me something to draw and design as I figure out how to put the blocks together. The fabric should arrive next week. Uh-oh! More busy-ness!!!

OOH!! and I got a Clover needlepunch tool today... I must try that out soon. Ok, when I finish the Mystery Quilt binding I might have time to have a go at it!!!

Rubbing my hands with glee

I think it was 2006 when I printed off free stitchery patterns from Bobby Socks Quilt Company. Each month I kept up to date with the stitching on the 1950s dresses pattern BOM. The original quilt is in black, pink and green. I chose warm and vibrant colours for my blocks.

While out quilt shop hopping with Rosie, Sandra and Andrea I fell in love with this Flea Market fabric range. I had seen it a few times and had resisted purchase by asking myself what I was going to use it for. Aha! I will select a few pieces for sashing etc for the 1950s dresses quilt! Don't the colours look yummy?

There seem to be a few extra bits and pieces in the box I have also delegated to this quilt project. Except for the green I got them all in a scrap bag for only $5!! Poor unwanted things, I will love you!




I am thinking I might combine the stitchery blocks with Maverick stars and just "build it and see". I don't have a design wall (yet), so I can't just let it grow on the wall. I am rubbing my hands with glee!

I know this rearranges the list of 4, but I can't work on the French Stitchery quilt if i haven't got the fabric can I?

4. Civil war hexagons (I am bored of this one today, but need to keep handwork on the list).
