PIGging out on a mystery quilt

I am taking part in a week by week online mystery quilt. This is my 4th mystery quilt, perhaps I should post photos of the other ones sometime. Good idea Me!! Of course, you have seen one I finished this year.

So, last Saturday we received the fabric requirements for the different sized quilts. I am not sure what size to do yet, it depends on the fabrics I use. It is supposed to be good for I Spy type fabrics, so I dug out a couple of PIGs (Projects in Grocery Sacks).

Ok, it could be the Easter bunnies in a single bed size with a couple of other fabrics.

OR

it could be the African prints in a lap size depending on what I can twiddle around.

It all depends on whether the "feature" or "most patterned" fabric is meant to be light, dark or whatever. I hope to find out today.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The seasons are a mystery

Ta-dah! Sound the trumpets!! Seasons Mystery Quilt of 2007 designed by Cathy Stevenson - appropriately finished while the seasons have changed enough to hang another quilt out on the clothesline (and washing too!! but I won't show you my sheets and smalls).

Mum custom quilted it beautifully.... there are diagonal lines behind the applique , the borders have their own designs, even the diagonal blue stripes have a little design running along them, each light "goose" has a swirly quilt design in it... It really is lovely. You need a closer look.

Each of the centre pictures depict one season. We start with the mother sitting on the nest, then we see mother and baby bird, and so on. The corner blocks depict the father bird in each season.

The red border looks very striking. I purchased all the fabric before I started, so it was ALL a mystery then.

This is a massive quilt, it covers my king sized bed.

Right, I've got to look through some Noddy books and get some more inspiration!

Hard copy

Last night I finished hand-stitching the binding onto the 2007 Mystery Quilt. I washed it to remove the green marking pen. I cannot find a trace of the green pen. It is sooo brilliant. Some of the pen has been on the fabric for 1 1/2 years. No problem.

I am putting together a pretty good collection of in-progress photos of my quilting journey by making this blog. A lot more photos than I would normally take.

drying on the clothes horse - still very wet

Should I make a hard copy of my blog and the photos too??? What do you do?

I wish I had pre-appliqued the label onto the quilt backing of this quilt. I machine-appliqued a small panel for a label onto the Eureka Chain quilt backing before posting it to Mum for quilting. I must try to remember to do that for all my quilts from now on. It's pretty hard for someone to steal a quilt when the label with the owner's identifying details are embedded in the actual quilting.

OK, not hard to steal, but hard to lose the details of the maker which would ultimately identify the quilt.
