I've absolutely done it!

The logs are all joined.

Do you think it needs a border? Mum, be on the lookout please, this quilt is a-coming for quilting very soon!

Sometimes, you know you've made the right decision.

Especially when the blocks come out so fast, and in such a fun way!

I feel like after months without sewing, this just had to happen.

I don't want to put the pineapple blocks aside, so I think this will be a good way to use them up.

Time for me to start piecing.

And this is how quickly maverick blocks can come together.

Here's what I think.... The corner triangles are a bit wasteful, there's small triangles that get cut off every time, and they seem to small to do anything with.

So, I'm thinking I might switch to maverick log cabins, and use up some other small fabrics in my stash, cut into strips varying in width and then keep on sewing.

 

Getting organised, and organising a Trip.

I came across this idea of keeping scraps tidy from Lori Holt's blog.

I used to keep my stash in colours, then in boxes of themes...but it became really messy...

 It's kind of funny. Once a fat quarter has a hole in it, even though it's meant to take up less space, it just doesn't fold up neatly enough or squash as much, and inevitably, fabric that has been cut into and is all wrinkled takes up more space.

After that I started to use up the themed fabrics on the back. Perhaps a bit of piecing with the colours and some large pieces..

Lori's picture above reminded me of the newer way I had been storing leftovers/scraps. I leave them in the themes and place them flat in a ziploc bag.

When I was making this 1950s dresses quilt, I bought a bag of someone else's scraps for the frames. They were tossed in all kinds of directions in the bag. After I added the frames I placed the leftover strips, pressed and neat into a ziploc bag.



The leftover strips just talked to me! I could see them through the clear plastic, and they were not ready to be lost in the boxes of scraps that naturally accumulate.

They just had to be made into this tablecentre.

I used a recycled bandana for the backing, and quilted it.

In the end there were only tiny, tiny scraps left of these fun fabrics.

With that in mind, I was thinking about processing some of my leftover bits to create strips. I would love to make one of these.

A scrappy Trip Around The World. I have some lovely fabrics to use, and so all I need is a tutorial.

Ooh, look at that. I found one.

Now, it's just a matter of choosing scale. Cut strips in 2.5in, 2in, or 1.5in?

Either way, it's just another way of getting organised.

Throw or Throw-away?

Ooh! I just found this cute little old thing (well it's a quilt UFO)... it looks great thrown on the ground and snapped.... I wonder if I have any of the "pathway" fabric left - the rest were scrappy bits...

I think I started this quilt in 1999... I worked on it for about a year, started a HUGE local hexagon craze using a technique where you don't tack through papers. Then I left everybody else with their hexagon-itis while I started to make loads of quilts of my own design that I taught in the LQS. The shop was called "Just For You Fabrics" - that was in 2000.



About a year or two later the shop relocated, then closed. At that time I started going to classes in Castlemaine where I met one of my best quilty friends Andrea.

Oh! What a trip down memory lane this has been! How wonderful to write it down while I can remember.

This blog really is a wonderful tool for recording quilt progress.... there's going to be a lot more of the past to talk about.....

I was cleaning out quilt storage (that's what you do when you've sold your house)... and couldn't decide whether to throw it away, or use it as a throw.... awwww... I'll have to keep it. It's gorgeous even as an unfinished piece....
