Birds In The Air - ready to launch

I have finished another little quilt ready to hang on the wall!!

I so enjoyed quilting this miniature piece - Birds In The Air.

The finished size is 20in x 16in. It was such a pleasure to machine quilt. It turns out that the teeny tiny "birds" (i.e. triangles) did not actually need quilting. See this close-up for quilting details.

I just scooted around the large base triangles a quarter inch away from the seam.

All that remains is to add a label, which I shall do.

Freshly Quilted

I just felt like moving in the gentle trance of the stitcher...

...line-following... the hum of the machine... they seem to induce trance-like states... our minds flow...they think of other things... but they don't worry... and they don't feel pain....

This little mini quilt has been sitting around for quite some time... (okay, that's over a year).. now it is quilted. Binding to follow very soon. I feel sure it won't be sitting around like this for long. These birds want to be in the air.

Now there are six.

This is the latest addition to my miniature quilt top collection.

Birds In The Air - made with 1800s reproduction fabrics. Measuring approx 16in x 20in. The yellow border is quite lairy, I think it will need a brown binding.

Now there are six little quilt tops waiting to be quilted. I said it before, and I will say it again. I plan to finish all the nine little quilt tops, then work out backings and bindings from the leftover bits of 45 fat quarters.... It's a self-challenge thing.

Gathering the Geese Around Me

I can just hear the noisy squawks of the geese gathering around me.

These are the last half square units. YAY!!!Actually, I did have to make one more.

This is the layout. I have used very dark fabrics for the background of the geese sections, and bright colours for the large triangles.

The yellow border is going to add a warm glow to the little quilt. These units seemed to go together rather quickly - perhaps it is because there are 24 large triangles (they don't need piecing at all!!).

I needed a fairly quick mini quilt. I still have one to catch up on - have you noticed I have not made one each month?

The geese are gaggling

The geese are gaggling, these are the latest wave/bird pieces just made.

I can't help but think of them as geese, starting to gather in a gaggle.

Here are all the pieces I have made so far. They will be arranged something like this.

I have decided not to make them all into blocks yet, but to make all 24 half units, then audition fabrics for the large triangles.

More itsy bitsies

I started a fresh miniature quilt. It's Birds In The Air, or Ocean Waves... or mine might even be Birds In The Waves!!

The complete blocks measure 3 inches finished.

I need to make 16 complete blocks and an additional 8 geese sections (without the bottom triangles).
I will just do a little bit at a time until I get there.
