Blaze

Hello everyone. I have had an absolute blast making this mini art quilt in a frenzy. Inspiration was so strong, that it just had to come out.

I had no idea who it was for...

Not sure whether the unicorn is afraid or just startled or mesmerised by the sacred geometry merkaba.

First I quilted the piece, then I applique/quilted the unicorn down, and added free motion quilting details.

Once finished, I love it to pieces, although I have no space or use for it myself, and it was made with such urgency that I feel sure it is going to a loved home.

N.B. Yes, it did go to a special home. I love it when that happens

Satisfaction

I'm feeling quite satisfied with the bit-by-bit quilting of these mini quilts.

How good is it to finish 3 little quilts, then hang them all together??? Well, I can tell you. It IS good. *grin*

Especially after going through a dry spell (the blog has been a bit light-on hasn't it??). The quilt above is Delightful Four-patch - started November 2009, completed May 2010.

I'm rearing to sew at home, but the heater is on the fritz, and it's the coldest we can remember for June. So, if I am at home, I am in bed with the electric blanket and a beanie on, with a book. It's not quite right for the sewing machine... *grin*

Of course I'm also working on a mystery BOM for my LQS that I can't show my progress on... so that's another reason the blog looks a bit forlorn.

Still, I hope to keep you updated soon with another mini-quilt completed. (I do so love seeing these hang on the wall!!)...

Gathering the Geese Around Me

I can just hear the noisy squawks of the geese gathering around me.

These are the last half square units. YAY!!!Actually, I did have to make one more.

This is the layout. I have used very dark fabrics for the background of the geese sections, and bright colours for the large triangles.

The yellow border is going to add a warm glow to the little quilt. These units seemed to go together rather quickly - perhaps it is because there are 24 large triangles (they don't need piecing at all!!).

I needed a fairly quick mini quilt. I still have one to catch up on - have you noticed I have not made one each month?

The geese are gaggling

The geese are gaggling, these are the latest wave/bird pieces just made.

I can't help but think of them as geese, starting to gather in a gaggle.

Here are all the pieces I have made so far. They will be arranged something like this.

I have decided not to make them all into blocks yet, but to make all 24 half units, then audition fabrics for the large triangles.

More itsy bitsies

I started a fresh miniature quilt. It's Birds In The Air, or Ocean Waves... or mine might even be Birds In The Waves!!

The complete blocks measure 3 inches finished.

I need to make 16 complete blocks and an additional 8 geese sections (without the bottom triangles).
I will just do a little bit at a time until I get there.

The Christmas Elves

Hi, This is my first ever post to my blog. I love reading quilter's blogs. It's so inspiring. I have so much to learn about posting. I just tried to post a blog in the "about me" section! Please stick with me while I improve the look and feel of my blog.

It has been a cold, rainy Winter day here and I have been madly working in a miniature quilt challenge item. Last Christmas all members of my local quilting group were given a parcel by "The Christmas Elves". The parcel contained small pieces of fabrics to be used in a miniature quilt: with 2 borders and measuring between 12" and 20" square. The mini quilt has to be finished by next Saturday for our Christmas in July function. Last Friday I had sewn the centre (the bit that looks like clam shells).

I tried making Dresden Plate for the first time - in miniature?? How mad was I? Suffice to say, there are improvements to be made.... To cut a long story short, I did not make a semi-circle, I made quarter circles and appliqued them on, then joined seams. This means the "spokes" (is that the right word) don't quite match up at some points.. so I will need to cover them up with something. Suffolk puffs? Buttons? Ribbon? They can't stay like this, and I don't have time to unpick and re-do.

Any suggestions?
