Itty Bitty quilts

An auspicious day.

Today I got to pick up my new car! The car accident had created something FOR me, and was making way for my new car to come in.

Look at that smile.

While I was driving home, I dropped into a local quilt ship and bought this little fabric pack to make a mini quilt as a gift. I have a few special big 0 birthdays coming up, and I wont'be able to make them big quilts, but I can make small ones to go on the table or hang on a wall.

I laid out these 2.5 inch squares, then chain pieced to create rows joined with threads so that i could just stitch across the columns.

Can you see what I'm saying? It's more clear in the picture above.

And I've started hand quilting with big stitches another itty bitty.

I've made these in colours for the recipients, and just love to try making something with the cute new fabric, but don't have to spend a whole lot of money to enjoy the feel.

Beep beep yeah!!

The diamonds are starting to sparkle

I have cut and cut.

Can you see the tracing board I made? I bought a clipboard from Daiso, and a little packet of sandpaper, (glued the sandpaper onto mdf clipboard)  and that saved me from driving to Bunnings.

I've stitched and stitched. That's enough for now. It's beautiful, but I need a break.

Diamonds

I hope you can see here, the reverse side of the Glitter and Cork fabrics. Hours and hours of tracing, and quite some time of hand cutting and piecing still to come.

A couple of new altar cloths mailed out this week.

A sneak peek at just how much stitching is on these.

Fare thee well love.

New pretties

I have a new little selection of pretties to make something using this little template I bought in a postcard.

Such a good grab, it's one shape with a postcard for a picture, so anyone who can American piece, can stitch this.

Did you know I first learnt American hand piecing? I didn't have a sewing machine of my own in 1997.

I am in love with my fabric selection. I think I'll leave it here while it talks to me.

home made

I've been looking everywhere for a Boston bun. I've had such a hankering. Do you think I could find one in any shops? Nope. Nope.

I'm sure they were everywhere when I lived in Victoria.

So I made one my danged self.

It's a little bit cool, but the dough is still rising.

Looking good!

Butter icing with coconut, and slatherings of butter.

Mmmph

A visitor from Deep Creek Quilting

Mum flew up for a visit. It's a beautiful time of year, best time, weather wise.

I love that she's here especially so that she has a relationship with my son.

Money has been tight this year, the altar cloth sales have been a necessity.

FLying to see Mum would cost us thousands. It's more economical for one person to travel.

Mum, is Wilma. Deep Creek Quilting, Vic. for your edge to edge or custom quilting.

Spoils at the Show

These three Santas were the ones I made from real wool felt using the May Blossom pattern at a local quilt shop class. Not that I needed the class, but I was looking for friendship that I missed from my best friends in Melbourne who are quilters.

Quilt groups just aren't so big up here, probably because it's hot.

My little boy won firsts prize for his diamond painting card. This is going in a frame!

This was a handmade reindeer that will go on display every year now. Pattern was by Colly's Creations.

My pumpkin quilt, "The Raven" designed by Blackbird Designs, won Champion Quilt. I will take better photos when it's at home. The plastic covering is to ensure it doesn't get dusty or bird droppings on I guess.

Wow, feeling so humbled.

This one didn't get a look in. I was very surprised. The level of difficulty was way up there.

A few of my altar cloths went in as well.

I just put them in to make up the numbers really

I truly loved creating this quilt, and felt empowered while making it. Mum did a spectacular job custom quilting it. I will show details in a later post.

Something good has been turning around for us, what a time it's been! Someone crashed into me recently, I got a brand new hire car on their insurance, and I feel like something amazing is happening. I can't wait to see what happens next.
